I love Sundays. I especially love Sundays when I’m not working.
“NOW THAT SUMMER IS WINDING DOWN, I’M STEALING MORE FREE SUNDAYS - IT’S A GIFT.”
I have my own jewelry line called Renna Jewels, and it consists of very light and whimsical pieces, making it perfect for the Summer. But that also means that most Summer Sundays for me are often spent traveling for trunk shows. Now that Summer is winding down, I’m stealing more free Sundays - it’s a gift.
On these days, I like to sleep in. I hope I don’t jinx myself by saying this, but I never have trouble sleeping, and I could probably sleep for 12 hours if I really wanted to. I like to say I am still a growing teenager (Hardly…).
I’ll probably wander into the kitchen around 9:30 AM and feed my 5 year old miniature dachshund, Reese. Then I run around my apartment burning sandalwood and sage, making sure it gets into every nook.
After this little morning routine, I’ll treat myself to a little coffee break. I just discovered the beauty of the French press. I was exclusively making matcha for years, but now my new favorite morning routine is grinding my own beans and making a freshly brewed pot of French press. I think it’s so elegant for serving and I love how it looks on my countertop. I’m having so much fun trying all sorts of coffee beans - any recommendations are always welcome! But it doesn’t stop there. I’ve completely gone off the rails and started making my own nut milks. The entire routine is pretty intricate, but on Sundays, I can really relish this morning routine.
Next, it’s time to walk Reese. I’ll either take her over to Three Owls for scrambled eggs or to Sweet Corner Bakery for their Pao de Quejo. I always get an extra one for Reese to nibble on.
Then my absolute favorite order of business - off to THE CLASS by Taryn Toomey. I have been a devotee of her incredible workout classes for about three years now and I can’t imagine living in this crazy town without their magic. All of the teachers are amazing. On Sundays I usually go to the Tribeca studio and grab a spot in Laura Camilleri or CJ Frogoso’s class. If I am out East, I can luckily pop over to their stunning location at The Barn in Bridgehampton. I often go more for the emotional release it provides, rather than the actual physical workout. But don’t get me wrong - it’s a killer workout and my legs are banging these days. I’ve also gone on her retreats which are absolutely magical. It’s really hard to explain everything that happens in THE CLASS. It’s my most necessary medicine.
If I’m really indulging, I’ll run over to Quick Cryo for an extra endorphin rush. By the time I head home, I am a strange mixture of invigorated and exhausted. I’ll take a long shower and put an Olaplex treatment in my hair. It makes my hair baby soft and I love it.
Then it’s time to get into my beauty products. If I wasn’t a jewelry designer, I would hands down work in beauty. I am constantly reading about new beauty products and techniques; I could talk beauty all day. Last Fall I booked a solo trip to Tokyo and Seoul, and I made sure to fill my suitcases with all the serums and masks I could find - I’m still working through them!
To start off my beauty routine, I always use the Biologique Recherche P50 1970. After that’s done, it’s time to play. I always try my best to figure out what my skin needs. I love Sarah Chapman’s Stem Cell Collagen Activator and Dr. Lara Devgan’s Platinum Hyaluronic Serum. Sometimes I’ll add in some of Environ’s antioxidant gel, and if I really want to treat myself, maybe I’ll grab one of my Korean or Japanese face masks out of the fridge. During the winter I live for Le Blanc Huile Oil by Chanel and I will finish off with a light moisturizer. I also adore La Solution 10 de Chanel mixed with Vitabrid’s vitamin C powder.
By now it’s about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I’ll throw on something easy and stroll over to Bleecker Street with Reese. I always look a bit crazy around this time on Sundays, because I have about 15 different skin products applied to my face and everything is still soaking in. Sometimes I’ll meet a friend to grab a bite to eat at Sant Ambreous or wander into a shop or two.
By the time we get home, it’s time to chill. I’ll turn some music on and cuddle with Reese for a bit. We cuddle a lot.
Dinners on Sundays are always cozy. If I have friends over, I’ll make Donna Hay’s roast chicken with an arugula salad. If I’m alone, I’ll order something yummy and curl up to some tv. Now that Big Little Lies is over, I need to figure out my new Sunday night show.
Hopefully by this time of the day, I am mentally and physically nourished. Off to bed and another serious cuddle sesh with Reese...
“HOPEFULLY BY THIS TIME OF THE DAY, I AM MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY NOURISHED. OFF TO BED AND ANOTHER SERIOUS CUDDLE WITH REESE.”
